Youth Advisory Committee - Bonavista
In January 2006, Random North Development Association introduced a new counsellor to the Employment Service Office (located in Room A118 - College of the North Atlantic) in Bonavista.
The office focuses on providing career counselling and employment services to all youth, living in the communities between Charleston and Bonavista including those along Route 235. The office offers a broad range of services that are tailored to meet the needs of youth who are facing barriers to employment including lack of education, lack of social & family support, and/or lack of economic opportunities. The YES office works hard to provide these youth with the information & the skills necessary to find and keep a job.
In an effort to form partnerships within the community the YES office contacted various organizations & groups in the Bonavista area and formed a Youth Advisory Committee.
This committee is made up of community stakeholders who are interested in the well-being of youth in the Bonavista Area which includes their physical environment, social environment, personal health practices and coping skills, culture, healthy child development, income and social status, social support networks, education, and employment and working conditions.
The Youth Advisory committee provides the opportunity for community stakeholders to collaborate and partner in the best interest of youth by sharing information, resources, knowledge and skills which benefit youth and the community.
For these reasons a broad range of service providers in the community are involved with ensuring the best outcomes for youth and the community as a whole.
